Sea Life aims to deliver a fun and entertaining experience to all our guests through “wow” displays and hands-on, interactive experiences.
SEASCAN App concept all began with an analysis of visitor comments, which revealed that one of the areas for improvement at SEA LIFE PARIS was access to information on species sheets. This project initiated by SEA LIFE PARIS Val d’ Europe is the result of a great collaboration between the aquarium’s teams and the start-up TIKO.
The core of the application is the recognition of species in real time and in motion thanks to artificial intelligence.
The gamified application encourages more visitors to discover the marine world. The aim is to:
- find as many species as possible to complete their collection of species called “the Aquadex”
- complete quests
- answer quizzes that provide information on the major challenges facing the oceans (overfishing, species decline, plastic pollution, coral bleaching, etc.).
To recognize a species, visitor simply must point to it with his smartphone in camera mode and it will be framed with its name and a certainty of recognition. By clicking on the framed species, the visitor unlocks the species which is added to his Aquadex and he has access to a species sheet: name, scientific name, size, weight, life expectancy, depth, description, geographical location, conservation status according to the IUCN red list to find out if the species is threatened, and fun facts.
Plunged into the heart of the aquatic world, visitors have fun while discovering the fragility of this fascinating world.
The SEASCAN application is available on the AppStore and PlayStore / Android and iPhone smartphones. For the moment, it is free to download and use.
The app is also available on 7 languages: French, English, Spanish, Dutch, German, Portuguese & Italian.
After a successful launch at SEA LIFE Paris, the app is being deployed, as part of a wider second test phase into 7 others Sea Life across Europe. (Porto, Benalmadena, Blankenberge, Istanbul, Helsinki, Scheveningen, Oberhaussen). The content of SEASCAN is developed and customized for each SEA LIFE aquarium according to their specific needs in term of language, such as and the marine creature’s species hosted.
Since its launch in Sea Life Paris in September of 2022 SEASCAN was downloaded over 11,200 times and has an average notation of 4,7/5 on AppleStore and Googleplay with over 130 reviews.
The SEASAN App is a real added value to the guest journey and improve considerably the visit at the aquarium. The use of the App has demonstrated having a positive impact on all the satisfaction KPIs of the aquarium. It improves for instance the NPS score by over 35%, the sensibilization to ocean preservation by 42% as well as the overall satisfaction by over 20%.
