Visitors are transported to an avant-garde space age through immersive cinematic experiences in the Moonshot Theater. Following this, they embark on a personalized mission, guided by supplementary media.
Using an immersive, ”flipped classroom” approach, The Moonshot Museum aims to educate and inspire future generations. Visitors learn through hands-on experiences rather than traditional didactic methods. This innovative approach encourages visitors to explore the Moon and beyond, find their path, fulfill their potential, and contribute to improving life on Earth.
The Moonshot Museum offers a unique opportunity to glimpse into the work of a real space company. It shares a building with Astrobotic, a space robotics enteriprise. Visitors can observe the company’s clean room where spacecrafts are being built and learn about the role of clean rooms in the space industry. Additionally, they can examine prototypes and finished Astrobotic products, including lunar lander and rover models.
The museum features a diverse range of interactive exhibits, including projections, touchscreens, touchtables, and environmental media elements. While each exhibit is customized to its specific needs, a consistent interface design ensures a seamless user experience. These interfaces are designed for accessibility, ease of navigation, and to enhance the futuristic immersion.
Throughout the museum, visitors encounter a variety of media-rich activities. These experiences often combine physical and digital elements, creating a dynamic and engaging environment. Environmental media further enhances the immersive atmosphere, setting the stage for each zone.
This media-centric approach provides exceptional flexibility. While the overall structure remains consistent, the specific visuals and activities adapt automatically with each new mission. A museum-wide system tracks visitor teams, allowing for a personalized experience. Visitors log their teams into the system at each zone, and all media within that zone is tailored to their progress. As they move through the museum, teams accumulate a portfolio of activity results, culminating in a mission-completing product.
The overall visual environment is dark, dramatic, and immersive. The main mission space evokes a lunar base, with architectural elements appearing to rise from the moon rock. Graphic and projected windows offer panoramic views of the lunar surface. Inspired by science fiction, the interior design incorporates industrial materials and organic shapes, with focused lighting adding dramatic effect.
The mission experiences take visitors on lunar-based missions that teach about the Moon’s potential and resources. Visitors may be tasked with establishing a lunar settlement or investigating interstellar crime. The museum emphasizes the importance of each visitor finding their own role in the future of space, inspiring everyone to contribute.
