Innovative Design
The attraction’s ingenious design, unveiled from a simple container, transforms into a beautiful compact setting reminiscent of a vintage Hollywood movie theatre, complete with an abundance of classic light bulbs and iconic marquee signages. The setting features ticketing, a photo booth, a queue line, and seating for thirteen.
Affordable Budget
This cost-effective attraction, adapted for fairs and itinerant events, boasts an easy setup requiring just 2 to 3 hours and minimal operator involvement, translating to lower operational costs.

Constraints
The main constraints were related to making Moviemax transportable by road, rail and sea, foldable and deployable easily with minimal personnel in the shortest time possible, and with the least effort. A 40ft standard shipping container was chosen for its ease of transport by road or sea.
From Alterface’s perspective, the interactive system needed to be robust and capable of withstanding various environmental conditions, while also being easy to maintain. A key feature of this system is that clients can independently calibrate it each time Moviemax is set up in a new location, without requiring an Alterface supervisor.
The Story Behind Moviemax

Léo Verstiggel, a 27-year-old carnival operator and industrial designer, comes from a family with a rich history in the carnival business. His great-grandparents operated mobile theatres, and his grandparents and parents ran Giant Wheels.
Léo’s life has been deeply intertwined with the world of carnival entertainment, traveling across France and drawing inspiration from his family’s legacy.
Léo aimed to create a vintage aesthetic reminiscent of 70s and 80s American cinema. This idea came to him suddenly one night, and within ten minutes, he had sketched the design on paper. The final product closely mirrors his initial vision, complete with the same lighting, light bulbs, light panels, and nostalgic references to vintage cinema.

Choosing Alterface for their advanced interactive theatre system, Léo decided to collaborate with them to design and manufacture the new mobile attraction. For three months, he worked intensively alongside his father and grandfather, both engineering experts, to build Moviemax.
This collaborative effort was both challenging and rewarding, allowing Léo to follow in the footsteps of his ancestors, who built their attractions at a similar age.
Future Plans
Moviemax opened at the Luna Park in Saint-Tropez and then will travel throughout the year, being showcased at various fairs across different cities. The goal is to maximise its usage throughout the year, ensuring it is operational for as many months as possible. In the future, more units are planned to be produced and exported to foreign markets for other fair operators or itinerant events worldwide.
