To achieve this, we relied on the art of our expertise to orchestrate our custom solutions to work harmoniously together to bring the observer through moments across space and time – a one-of-a-kind immersive experience.
In late 2023, Las Vegas welcomed a groundbreaking artistic destination: ARTE MUSEUM LAS VEGAS. Spanning 2,787 square meters, this immersive experience offers visitors a dynamic journey that engages all five senses and showcases the intersection of technology, art, and nature.
The museum’s centerpiece, ETERNAL NATURE, is a testament to this fusion. A collaboration between AVI-SPL’s XTG (Experience Technology Group) and renowned Korean digital design firm, d’strict, the exhibit features 10+ unique spaces themed around nature and art and uses next-gen technology to blur the lines between reality and fantasy.
”We aimed to allow the audience to experience the various senses that can be felt in nature rather than simply viewing colorful video work,” says Sean Lee, CEO of d’strict. ”We approach this by utilizing various media technologies, such as projection mapping, multi-image control and sensor-based interaction, to make the entire space into one cohesive piece of art. The result is an oasis of tranquility amid the hustle and bustle of the Las Vegas Strip, which serves as the perfect home for ARTE MUSEUM’s first exhibition in the Western Hemisphere.”
ARTE MUSEUM LAS VEGAS stands at a massive 2,787 square meters of space, two and a half times the size of Manchester Cathedral. From the moment you walk in, you are enveloped in a digital art installation, comprised of over 80 Barco projectors each requiring its own specific mounting solution that had to be discovered, engineered, and manufactured to arrive at the precise image intended for the experience. If you recall the projections used in primary school, even the slightest shift of angle or distance can have a great distorting effect on the image. At 48kg, these projectors needed to stay securely in place at varying heights and distances from the wall (sometimes projected through a wall) while adhering to US structural standards – a first for d’strict.
In addition to the Barco projectors, ART MUSEUM LAS VEGAS relies on Q-SYS DSP and control, custom PC media servers running Dataton Watchout, and an assortment of Lab Gruppen amplifiers, EAW loudspeakers, Lightware video distribution and fiber extension, and NETGEAR network infrastructure technologies to power the dazzling experience. AVI-SPL designed and installed intricate truss, pole, and wall mounts that were needed to realize the client’s distinct standard of spectator experience.
We utilized a combination of Chief projector mounts outfitted with custom mounting plates and cages designed and created especially for this project, transforming the seams into the seamless. State-of-the-art audio systems were expertly tailored to designated areas to keep visitors enchanted while ensuring impeccable playback. The roar of a waterfall is synchronized with visuals and mist effects, and gentle birdsong accompanies a meadow blooming with camellia flowers, complete with scent.
The combination of these elements working in sync makes their observers forget they’re in a building in the middle of the Las Vegas strip. It’s no easy feat to masterfully rig an art exhibit meant to transport you to another world, when it is firmly localized within the confines of the existing structure it now resides. Like a video editor, audio engineer, or master carpenter, AVI-SPL blends the seams of technology to create a lasting magical sensory experience.
